Science

  • Barnegat Township School District implements an inquiry-based, balanced, interactive, hands on science education through utilizing the Next Generation Science Standards.  By providing a foundation in science, Barnegat Township teachers strive to enforce an inquiry based learning by requiring students to complete Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning into course assignments and labs. Through participation in performance-based science activities and labs, students develop the skills of inferring, questioning, observing, experimenting, calculating, evaluating and analyzing. In doing do, teachers expand and enhance a student’s curiosity and enable them to gain knowledge which excites them. Barnegat Township School District offers a full spectrum of science courses designed to instill students love for scientific inquiry, enabling them to meet challenges, and to persevere to find solutions. 

    When engaging in inquiry, students describe objects and events, ask questions, construct explanations, test those explanations against current scientific knowledge, and communicate their ideas to others. They identify their assumptions, use critical and logical thinking, and consider alternative explanations. In this way, students actively develop their understanding of science by combining scientific knowledge with reasoning and thinking skill’.
