Mr. Anthony Orecchio

  • Anthony Orecchio is a woodwind player and an instrumental music educator in the Barnegat Township School District. In addition to teaching instrumental music at the Horbelt School, he is also the director of the Horbelt jazz band. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree (2005) from Rowan University and a Master of Music degree (2009) from Boston University, both with a concentration in music education.

    Despite a busy schedule, Mr. Orecchio remains very active in the music education community. This allows him to stay abreast on emergent trends in the field of music. He holds, or has held, memberships in Phi Delta Kappa, South Jersey Band and Orchestra Director’s Association (SJBODA), New Jersey Music Educator’s Association (NJMEA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Society for Research in Music Education (SRME), Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME), and the All Shore Band Director’s Association (ASBDA).

    Over the past few years, Mr. Orecchio has become an active clinician in New Jersey, presenting workshops at the local, county, state, and national levels to both music teachers and students. In year’s past, he has presented workshops at the New Jersey State Music Conference on saxophone pedagogy and on teacher preparation. Additionally, he presents an annual workshop to the students of the Franklinville School District on saxophone technique as part of their Music in Our Schools Month celebration. He has also presented workshops to teachers and students of the All Shore Band Director’s Association on the All State Saxophone Solos.

    In 2005, Mr. Orecchio was named an Outstanding American Teacher by the National Honor Roll and in 2009, he was invited to join the National Scholars Honor Society. In 2016, he was nominated for the GRAMMY Music Educator Award.  In 2019 and 2020, Mr. Orecchio was awarded the Superintendent INSPIRES Award for Promoting and Supporting the Well-Rounded Student and was also named the Barnegat High School Teacher of the Year.  In 2020, Mr. Orecchio was named the All Shore Band Director of the Year and in 2022, he was named to Who's Who in America.

    He resides in Jackson with his wife and two children, Joey and Emily.
