• Aloha!  My name is Emily Cherry.  The 2021-2022 School year marks my 22nd year teaching high school math, and my 17th year at BHS.  I graduated from Hillsborough High School, then went to Washington College, a small school on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, to study Mathematics Education where I also swam and was captain of the swim team.  After I graduated in 2000, I began my teaching and HS coaching career at Somerville High School, NJ.  In 2003 I had the opportunity to go teach and coach at Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Hawai'i, an opportunity that I jumped at.  After 2 years of that amazing experience, I was ready to move back closer to my family and I heard about a new high school that had just opened in Barnegat.  So in 2005, I returned from the sunny beaches of Hawai'i to the beautiful Jersey Shore and I have been happily teaching and coaching swimming at BHS since.

I am honored to have coached a relay team and one individual swimmer to NJSIAA Swimming Meet of Champions (2001, 2016), 30 swimmers to HIAA (Hawai'i Intercholastic Athletic Association) Meet of Champions (2004, 2005), and have coached teams to high seeds the NJSIAA State champonship tournament in 2003, 2013-2019, with the 2019 boys team becoming Barnegat High School's first ever State Sectional Champions.  I was awarded the KSSK OIA (Oahu Interscholastic Athletics) Coach of the week in 2003, and Press of Atlantic City Swim Coach of the year in 2018.  I also received the Barnegat Inspires Superintendent's award in 2018-2019 for Promoting & Successful Student Athletes and 2019-2020 for Beinga Leader in Student Engagement.

I also coach the St Francis Sharks Swim Team.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, the beach, photography, travel and Harry Potter.  I am looking forward to meeting everyone and an exciting new year!!!
